Black ink would not insert even though it hit the table and pierced the top of the cartridge. Finally I poked him with a paperclip. There was one cartridge that went in easily but the top of the handle didn't come loose so no matter how hard I pulled only the bottom of the handle came loose even though it's threaded! I thought this would be a good inexpensive starter kit, but sitting here with ink on my fingers I know you get what you pay for! and this is a point where pens are so cheap that it's not worth skimping on.
