Review on ViewSonic Projector Keystone Streaming PX701 4K by Ronny Goodman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works well as a computer monitor

I wanted to add some feedback on using it as a computer monitor in case others feel the same way. The device is very bright. I don't have to close windows when looking at high-contrast objects like text. The colors may not be as good as with more expensive projectors, but I think it's ok. I found using 1080p resolution for desktop was better than 4k as the pixels are a bit washed out at that resolution which doesn't make the text as good. This is due to the Pixel Shift technology used (any 4K projector under $1600-$2000 will use it). However, the screen is very detailed at 4k, showing movies and games, and the pixel shift adds a little anti-aliasing. I would venture to say that I would actually prefer a pixel shift projector for computer use as you can choose between 4k 60Hz and 240Hz 1080p, both modes having their strengths. I feel like I have two monitors that I like for different reasons, which is cool. There's a slight noticeable lag at 4k, but actually it's not too bad. At 1080p 240hz I don't notice anything. And it really is, the difference between 120 and 240 Hz is noticeable and looks very good at high refresh rates. I actually prefer it to my 1440p 144Hz monitor. I don't think it'll be enough for sports compared to a 240Hz monitor, but it's very close. Don't forget to use game mode. Overall as a computer monitor it performs better than I expected and I'm happy with it and think it's good value for money. Other thoughts: I wish the power plug was longer. I won't be ceiling mounting this and had to use an extension cord to reach the plug which is only a few feet horizontal. The remote control looks a bit dated. I don't really care, but I think ViewSonic should update the design. Sometimes the device makes a strange rotating noise that is annoying. Usually not, and it has done less so when I've used it. It's not the fan, like something spins without lubrication. When it doesn't, I found the fan noise to be fairly quiet and constant. It's very easy to switch between modes like Normal and Economy with just one touch. This is very good as the lamp has a lifetime. If I know I'll be away from my computer for a few minutes or just looking at some text, I can switch it to Super Eco in two seconds. - SuperEco at 240Hz flickers and switches to a different refresh rate. That. A few tips: - Dynamic Eco is basically as good as normal in terms of color and brightness, at least when it shows a bright image. This is my main setting. I think it only dims when the screen is dark. According to the manual, it is better than Eco (but not Super Eco) in terms of lamp life. Make sure your resolution is 1920 x 1080 if you want 240Hz. If it is 1920 by 1200, the default would be 120 Hz. - If the projector is placed above you, make sure you turn the projector upside down. This requires almost no keystone correction, so the original image is preserved.

Pros
  • This is amazing
