Review on UPERFECT Portable FreeSync External Anti-Glare Screen, 2560X1600 Resolution, 120Hz Refresh Rate, High Dynamic Range, Built-In Speakers, IPS, HD by Brian Odell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Finally works great on the M1 with an updated sleek design.

EDIT (2022-08-05): After several attempts, support finally got me the latest version, which now works with my Macbook Pro M1. I can also say that the new design is thinner, which goes very well with the new cover. Even though this whole interaction took about a year, the UPERFECT team as a whole is very responsive and is true to their word that they will fix the issue. and contact me with an updated version. ----EDIT (2021-12-20): Doesn't work with M1, but support is very supportive. Support contacted me to explain that their current monitor doesn't work with M1 Macs (haven't tried Intel Macs yet). They offered to send a monitor that works with it, as well as an updated one after the fix (there's no ETA yet). As a result, I bump to 4 stars as they go out of their way to resolve the original issue and have been very communicative and responsive so far. ----- Original review title: Wrong native standard resolution, can't use mirroring mode, doesn't support retina mode The monitor is great: compact, 4K, fairly bright and doesn't require power when connected via USB-C to mine Macbook Pro (M1 Pro), also in battery mode. The problem I have is that it doesn't support retina mode (or I couldn't get it to work). I can choose either 1920x1080 (i.e. FullHD) or 3840x2160 (i.e. 4K), but that makes the display almost unreadable at normal distances. What I want is Retina 1920x1080 and for some reason this monitor doesn't seem to support it. If you dig more, it looks like the native resolution, as shown in About This Mac > Displays, is 1280 x 1024, which is an odd 5:4 screen ratio. This poses a problem if you want to: - set the display to "standard display" (the image is horizontally distorted) - use the display in any mirror mode (black bars above and below the screen) For this reason, this is im Basically not even as useful as a regular FullHD portable monitor that you can at least properly mirror. Would not recommend buying.
