This replaced a very old Orville Redenbacher Presto Popper that used counter paper discs and a separate nozzle with a metal plate. This popper has always opened all but 4 or 5 cores without using oil, which is why I consider it a performance benchmark. When I first used my Proper Popper—same microwave, same amount of popcorn, and dry too—it had a lot of old maids left. But if I add a teaspoon of oil to the kernels, it's much better if about a dozen does not burst. I think that's reasonable and a small amount of oil doesn't add any appreciable fat to the popcorn. The popper is very easy to clean. I also love that it folds up to take with us in our RV. A good product. Good value for money. Good performance. And no more trying to get hard-to-reach paper discs. I also have a Nordic Ware hard plastic popper. This is far superior to Nordic-Ware.
