I would give 4.5 stars if I could, but overall I like this toy. My 3 year old mostly builds "flat" marble walkways but still loves it very much. While my 8 year old can do harder runs and "jump" marbles from one run to another. So we decided to buy a second box so he can do even more with it. One thing that struck me as odd is that the balloons aren't balloons at all. They are simply hollow halves of a sphere that need to be fitted together. They work great and are easy to assemble, but they are not traditional balls. We like to use our large Lego Duplo baseplate to have a larger base than the ones supplied, it is not required but is compatible.
