When it works, it works well. But it doesn't always work.

I bought five of these when they went on sale at a significant discount. They're good when they work, but they don't always work. One of them died after about two days (they use two AA batteries). Thinking I might have a dead battery set, I put in a new set. No, he died about a day and a half later. Sent it back for a replacement. Another has a very dark display. I thought maybe the batteries were dying but replacing them didn't change anything. The black and gray LCD display is blurry and blurry. Unless you look directly at the watch, it is difficult or impossible to read. The watch is said to automatically "call home" about every 24 hours to re-sync the time with the WWVB radio station in Colorado. WWVB broadcasts a signal synchronized to the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) atomic clock. If you don't need sub-second accuracy, this is as accurate a time hack as you can get. If you want sub-second accuracy, you'll need to buy a more expensive watch. The problem is that some watches connect reliably to NIST every day, while others can't seem to connect at all. In the top right corner of the display is an icon that looks like a satellite dish and is emitting waves. When this icon is visible, the watch has established communication with the mothership in the last 24 hours. No icon is displayed and the clock may not be synced. When I compare the clocks in my house that are connected to those that aren't, I see that they rarely differ by more than a few seconds. However, sometimes the display can be extremely inaccurate. I noticed that a day or two ago the clock on my bedroom wall was six hours (and an odd number of minutes) wrong, and the date was February 2nd. It was July 17th. He was the right temperature. You can force a manual sync by pressing the button on the back of your watch. This will cause the satellite dish icon to flash. If the bowl icon is followed by a wave icon, it is NIST related and after about five minutes the correct time and date will be displayed. No emitted wave symbol, no connection. Sometimes the clocks connect, sometimes they don't. I've tried to find some consistency in what does or doesn't connect them, and I've been unsuccessful. I place two clocks next to each other on the table, both turned in the same direction, and one connects, the other doesn't. The one I have in the office connects when I place it on the opposite side of the room where it normally is, but never in its usual place. Typically, a set of two AA batteries will keep one of these clocks running for well over a year. . When the batteries are low, the display turns off. There are no other warnings that the batteries are running low. It might not be the best choice for an alarm clock to help you get up for work on time. This is a nice clock, it works on a table (there are small legs that slide out the back for support) or on a table. walls, and when it works, it works well. It just doesn't always work, which is one of the most important and desirable factors in a watch.
