Review on TECSUN PL 310ET Stereo World Allnice by Amador Buckenmeyer

This is a great little personal radio.

I wanted a small radio with lots of features that wouldn't take up much room in my laptop bag. Tecsun PL-310ET is exactly what I was looking for. I mainly listen to FM and AM for talk or news, with some music added. I'm not a fan of shortwave, but that's a nice bonus for me. play when i have time. Living in the suburbs of a big city, I have a lot of radio stations on both FM and AM. Close and sometimes far. The sound is good for a small, low-power radio with a small speaker. It doesn't have as high a pitch as other smaller radios, meaning it's not as comfortable on my ears for long periods of time. My favorite feature is the ETM search mode. Of course I can switch it back to manual tuning mode, but simply turning the tuning wheel step by step to the next stored ETM station certainly saves time. I also like the direct access to the station when I know exactly what I want to tune in to. I love the size and feel of the side tuner, which is why I wish the volume knob was the same. As already mentioned, the tuning button on the side slides off with little effort. So I used some super glue to attach this knob to the tuning control shaft. A simple solution. Another point is that I've found that the temperature readings on board are accurate as long as the radio isn't on, in my hands, or in the sun. When the radio is on, the temperature is about 2 degrees. If I hold the radio for a long time, the temperature will equal the temperature of my hand. The PL-310ET appears to be a well-designed and well-made mini radio. I like the size and all the electronic gimmicks it has. Overall, this Texan loves this Tecsun. Update June 2, 2018: I found some old AA rechargeable batteries at home and an old PL-310ET USB charging cable from my laptop. It works great but battery life is less than new AA batteries. It's still worth cutting down on battery purchases, but you'll need to follow the charging instructions in the PL-310ET user manual. Thank you for this little feature. I also ordered and received a Tecsun AN-06 plug wire antenna, damn it. The wire antenna ensures a significant increase in the signal strength of shortwave transmitters. Upstairs in my house the channels received went from 19 shortwave on the telescopic antenna to 31 shortwave on the pin wire antenna. I also used a wire antenna for VHF reception, but it had much less effect than on shortwave. 68 VHF transmitters on a telescopic antenna versus 70 VHF transmitters on a wire antenna. No effect on AM/MW, as the internal antenna is of course used. It's fun to have a plug antenna, but it's not necessary in my situation.

Pros
  • Shortwave radios
Cons
  • Cord shorter than other models
