Very soft but absolutely NOT WATERPROOF
This only works very well as a pillowcase but is absolutely not waterproof and still requires a waterproof cover on the underside if you want to protect your pillow for a long time. I've had other waterproof Tempur-Pedic protectors and knew the second I opened this one it wasn't. To test my theory, I simply poured a small amount of water over it and my hand instantly got wet on the opposite side of the material. As for complaints about the zipper, I don't know yet as I haven't used it for quite a while. I keep it because it looks nice and it's comfortable to sleep in.
