For embroidered projects I cannot recommend enough.

Texture like velvet, dense enough not to ruin or complicate the embroidery project, holds its shape even when cut, stretches exactly a few cm in each direction - that's what I do of materials I need for handicrafts and why I use felt at all. It is also very forgiving of pinholes. They will be visible for a while, but as you work they will disappear. My local store increased the price of the felt I usually buy, which is 1/2 inch thick and looks almost like thick flannel - from 20 cents for a 10" x 14" sheet, or $1.50 per yard, to 60 cents for one sheet or $6 per yard. I use it to make mug mats by stitching the pattern onto felt and then sewing it onto thick foam. I was horrified trying to find an equivalent online, cheap 15 cent felt is no good for what I'm making - the texture scratches and when it gets wet the paint bleeds and stains the head. The mug is cozy. For coffee and tea. You will get wet. And they need to be washed. So I was afraid that anything I could find at a good price, especially at Revain, would be glorified cheap crap. When this material arrived I was very concerned about how velvety it was, thinking it might not be strong enough to be embroidered or even sewn on. I thought it would stretch too much and fall apart when sewn. It seems to be quite durable. There's no friction, and the loose tentacles don't cling to my head β€” messing it up, forming knots as I work, or looking like grass growing out of holes. Sews well, doesn't tear.
