Review on πŸ”ˆ Sonos Five - Unmatched Sound Quality and Superior Performance - Black by Jenny Washington

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Audiophile Sound Quality, Apple Network Compatibility, Compact Size

Planning to replace my 20+ year old stereo, I wanted to ditch traditional stereo components and take a more modern approach. There were several requirements I had for my new audio system to be catered for. - Compact to fit in our small living space. - A system based on music streaming services. - Ability to play audio from my TV, player and multiple network devices. - Stay on a modest budget. - Audiophile sound quality. I found a solution that meets all of the above needs in one package. Sonos 5 is a wireless speaker. The cabinet contains six Class D amplifiers feeding three midrange drivers and three tweeters. The woofers are placed on a curved surface and project music onto a wide soundstage. Two tweeters are placed at sharp angles and spread the sound on either side of the room, the other in the middle. This configuration results in impressive, room-filling sound from a single cabinet. While the Sonos 5 tries to give you a stereo experience, you don't get true stereo separation from a single device. To this you can add a second Sonos 5 for the full stereo split effect, but it can be a little pricey. The main entrance comes from your Wi-Fi network. Available for most mobile and desktop devices, the Sonos S2 app allows you to set up your Sonos 5 on your network, optimize your room speaker (TruePlay), and stream music from your devices. The app allows you to combine all your streaming services into one app from which you can search and play music across all services. In addition to app control, you can also control volume, play/pause and skip tracks with the sleek touch controls on top of the speaker enclosure. If, like me, you're immersed in the Apple ecosystem, not only can you use the Sonos app, you can airplay audio from any app on your Apple devices. This allows me to send audio from Apple TV, iPhone and Mac using any app. The system does not have a Bluetooth receiver as this results in poor audio fidelity. There is also a wired analog input that can be used to connect a turntable, CD player or other non-networked device. If you're looking for a new stereo system and want to try something unconventional, I recommend the Sonos 5 for its high sound quality, compact design, and integration with Apple networks and devices.
