Lesson Learned on Chains

Well, my friends, all opponents were right. These links are NOT suitable for 7- and 8-speed chains. I tried all the links with the (1st) appropriate chain tool, then pliers, then other methods. ALL other links I've ever used just snap into place with the press of a finger. There will be none. These aren't my first rodeo kids. I have been involved with bicycles for many years. This is just the first time I've fallen for total misinformation because I wanted it (cheap seems good to me). Don't do what I did. Skip it, go to something tried and true, as I will soon. EDIT: After a lot of trying, I finally fixed one using this method: put both halves of the link in place, and then while holding them together on the chain with pliers, grab the drive-side crank and lift it up a bit (press the pedal back a few inches), and then step forward. I had to repeat this process at least 3 times but now the link is blocked (and may never go off again!). I've been cycling and everything seems fine. I'll report back if that's not the case. Not even angry (except me) just trying to help!

Pros
  • A handy magic chain buckle, helpful for temporary use or repairing a bike chain if your chain breaks on a trail or road. Make chain cleaning and maintenance much easier.
Cons
  • Security
