Very strong magnets. Even works on Samsung S6 with double layer case. One layer is silicone rubber, and the outer layer is a thicker and harder shell for protection. I used a large square metal plate instead of a smaller round plate (they already have 3m of tape on them). It comes with 2 round and 2 square plates that you either stick on the outside of the back of your phone or on the inside of your phone case. Without a protective cover for the phone (case), the plate is visible (but is not a problem). If you leave the plate open on the outside, it almost becomes strong because it comes in direct contact with the magnet. And unless your vents are perfect to hold the magnet very, very firmly, you run the risk of the magnet coming with the phone when you grab it. But inside it's still pretty durable (unless your case is super thick). Not sure if round is better than square (it's actually a rectangle)? I was just thinking that since the rectangle is larger, the target for finding the magnet would be larger? So far this is a 5 star product.
