Review on πŸ–¨οΈ Superior Quality Prints with the Epson Stylus Photo 780 Inkjet Printer by Daniel Pyfer

Not bad for a second printer

I bought this printer when my trusty Personal LaserWriter LS suddenly gave up the ghost after 8 years. Never before have I taken such a step backwards with new technical topics. Don't get me wrong, I love the 780, but I would never recommend it, or any other inkjet printer, as the only printer for someone who prints any number of black and white pages. The black and white printing is good at best but falls short of the quality my 8 year old laser printer produced the day before it failed. When using Epson photo paper, the color reproduction is simply amazing. Take a good quality digital photo, set the 780 to the highest quality mode, and with glossy photo paper it's hard to tell what average photo processing yields. For children's content, low-quality mode works well with plain paper as long as there is enough free space on the paper so that the paper doesn't get saturated with ink. 780 is both slow and noisy, not the best combination. This is of course compared to a printer that was quiet and about 8 times faster. Compared to other inkjet printers, it's quieter and faster than any HP printers I've used, faster but noisier than the Cannon printers I've used. My first block died in a month. The print was not aligned. I called Epson (toll free) and they sent me another UPS and a prepaid UPS to ship my old one back. It even included new ink carts (nice!). Leave a few blank if you ever need a service exchange as they'll want them to come with ink carts. All ink carts are expensive, but the 780s are even more expensive. In fact, all photo series (780, 790, 870, 890, etc.) use the same car, and they are much more expensive than the 760 family cars. They are also smaller, especially the black car. This means higher costs per page. If you want to use it as your main printer, if you can't get a laser printer, choose the 760 family printer instead. Good printer but not for everyday use.
