This controller design is mainly for protection. Although the leather is a textured design, it is primarily for protection and not to prevent slipping or pinching. The included thumb caps are cool if you want to protect the thumbsticks and prevent them from deteriorating like the ones on PlayStation 4, but I used the ones I bought for my PS4 which have increased texture for protection and grip. All in all, this is a great way to secure your controller for less than $9. My favorite color is royal blue, so of course I went with blue, but there's also white and black.
