Review on 🦌 Browning Trapper Creek Hunting Vest by Carl Mayes

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent comparative review of the two pads in the vest pocket. Great products too!

I've been surfing the web and found a lot of feedback on the Reactor G2 liner versus the Beretta Gel liner in the Browning Trapper Creek vest. So I decided to try them all side by side and write a review so you can experience it in words before making a decision. So in the photo below you can see that the vest has a pocket to store the reactor. Overlay G2. The bag comes with the vest but the lining does not. Cushion sold separately. If you review a product here, Revain recommends or tells you that other people are also buying the Beretta gel pad, even though the gel pad was not made specifically for the Trapper Creek vest. but does it work? Well it really is! (In fashion, of course.) I'm not going to go too deep into the review of the vest itself, as there are already many reviews of the vest itself. So I won't repeat the same thing. In short, this is a lightweight, lightweight, durable vest to wear over your usual film attire, be it a flannel shirt, jacket, sweatpants, etc. Size M seems to fit. This is loose clothing, so a small error is quite tolerable. Two large front pockets hold 25 rounds (1 box). If you leave the box whole it won't fit, the square rigid shape of the box makes it uncomfortable. Put the ammo in your bag instead (all 25, loose). They fit better that way. The back of the vest (which covers the buttocks) contains empty shells. This is for those of you who collect empty cases to charge or dispose of in the trash in a proper and eco-friendly manner. There is NO zipper at the bottom of this bag. So to empty the empty shell you have to take off your vest and throw it away instead of standing over a bucket or box and opening your bag and dropping the shells on the ground. Just so you know (for some this might be a hindrance? For others it doesn't really matter). ALSO, one review states that the vest does NOT fully open in the front. This turned out not to be true. The vest is completely unbuttoned at the front and can be opened completely. You can wear it like a jacket, not like a t-shirt. The rating must therefore be corrected. However, the double zipper design on the front makes it difficult to fully open the zipper. However, it can undoubtedly be fully closed and opened once you learn how to work with two tandem zippers. As you can see from the photo, the Reactar G2 pad fits in your pocket perfectly and flawlessly. The Beretta Gel Pad is too big to fit all the way in, but like another review said if you turn it upside down and push the narrow end forward, it fits! BUT be aware that the Beretta gel pad is still too big, but that can be both a good and a bad thing. I came across a couple of reviews stating that the Reactar G2 bag is too low for field shooting like trap/skit. And I agree. After trying, Reactar G2 is really too low. Often the butt of a shotgun doesn't rest on the G2, but much higher on the shoulder, completely knocking the target over. But if you turn the Beretta gel pad on its head, the large upper is actually much higher and protects the shoulder, and it actually works very well for cross-country shooting. Wow! Imagine. I've attached a photo showing the front view of the vest where the two pads should be when worn properly. You can see that the Beretta pad definitely covers the shoulder at least 1-1.5 inches, which is the absolute benefit of this pad. The only drawback: Since the Beretta padding is too big for this vest, part of the padding protrudes too far into the neck area. Depending on how you hold your trap gun, this piece of gel pad might not bother you, but for some (like me) the edge of the pad just sticks right up my neck, which is a little annoying. Because while the gel pad itself is soft, the edge is quite hard and sharp. Ouch. But no fear. There are many reviews stating that you can trim and trim Beretta gel pads. It's definitely possible. On closer inspection, the gel pad has separate gel cells since the pad is not a large continuous piece of gel material. So you can cut between the cells with scissors when trimming. As long as you're not cutting out a real cell with the gel, there's no problem. So just follow the zigzag line and cut off the extra gel cells you don't need. More cells don't mean more cushioning. Only cells in direct contact with the weapon's stock absorb the impact. So don't be afraid to cut off the excess, that is, the cells that do nothing, that will never come into contact with the butt of the gun. Which pad is more shock absorbing? I bet you were dying to hear the answer to this question! Conclusion: Reactar G2 is more absorbent than Beretta Gel in my honest opinion. Reactar is thicker and slightly stiffer. It absorbs more shock (2.75 inch shell, standard field load) both in theory and in actual tests. Don't ask me to put a number on it! That is hard! Individual feelings are different. Well, if I have to use a number, I would say that Reactar is about 20% more absorbent than Beretta gel. But don't quote me on that! hehe. That's my personal feeling, that's all. Another question: CAN YOU USE BOTH?! The answer is yes! See my picture below. Both Reactar G2 and Beretta Gel fit in the same pocket on this vest. Simultaneously! But remember that if the butt is high on the shoulder and resting only on the Beretta Gel, two are useless. However, if the stock is lower in your natural shooting style, you can have two pads working at once to your advantage. Yes, the absorbency is amazing if you use both! But the two pads are quite thick and the length of the train is short by about 1/8 inch. little! As for me, I didn't feel anything special, 1/8 inch is detectable but not enough to change the game. But yeah, I feel like LOP is a little further along. When using only one pad (it doesn't matter which one), I couldn't reliably tell the difference in the LOP. The difference is too subtle to make a significant detectable difference. Spring. I really hope that this long review was helpful to you. I hope the photo was good too. I've tried to answer some of the unanswered, much debated questions in this one review and with photos to show the actual differences between the Reactar G2 and the Beretta Gel, as well as how it looks and fits into the Browning Trapper vest. Hope you find the right one for you! Finally, as for me, I will most likely only use the Browning Trapper Vest with Beretta Gel. My gun is very high and doesn't touch the Reactar G2 at all where that platform is. But I will keep them both. For seated shooting, I can push the rifle's butt lower and closer to my chest, where the Reactar G2 is located. Much luck!
