This bottle was in perfect condition when it arrived, no smell. But after only a few days of using it with water, when I opened the lid and started drinking the water I almost threw up, it smelled like a damp rag/whiskey that had been sitting on the kitchen counter for days (if you're referring to that can to this smell). I could have had a very large rubber gasket in the lid. I contacted customer service and they were kind enough to send me a free replacement cap, it smelled exactly the same after two days of use. To test the water source I use, I used a different brand bottle and it was perfectly fine even after a week of use. As such I would not recommend this bottle unless you have the patience and time to clean the rubber seal every day. Takeya makes great products and I use other Takeya products too, but this particular bottle just didn't work for me, maybe their engineers didn't realize that the sealing material can cause a bad smell. I want my money back.
