As other reviews have pointed out, it's getting upgrades that remove the ability to print with black ink only and also remove the ability to select print quality, so you always end up printing at the highest quality you can uses the most ink. I did what others have said, reinstalling the CD that came with it and then selecting 'did not receive updates' which allowed only black ink to print and restored the print ink quality. The reason it's in the trash is because it ran out of black ink 5 days ago and the ink hasn't arrived in the mail to this day. The old ink was in him while he waited for the new ink to arrive. When I put in the new black ink it actually used up all the black ink as well as my yellow ones because they keep needing printhead cleaning because they don't print those two colors. Note that ink is consumed each time the printhead is cleaned. You can watch your ink disappear with every cleaning. 16 purges never managed to print in all colors, although I removed the black ink and wet ink remained on the hole where it was filled, meaning the ink may have come out. Over the years, the printhead had to be cleaned so often that it used a lot of ink, which didn't make it a very good printer. I also have HP which I like. You cannot print in black if all colors are blank. It was a bad experience and I will stick with HP printers.
