I wanted an inexpensive option for my desktop computer, but I also wanted decent sound quality. I didn't expect high quality for such a price, but I didn't want to settle for crap either. At first I looked for 2.1 speakers with a separate subwoofer to get good soundstage, but every sub-$50 system I could hear was terrible. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. So I decided to ditch the crappy subwoofer and go with an above average 2.0 system instead of a below average 2.1 system. These Pebble speakers were exactly what I needed. The sound is surprisingly rich, full and relatively loud for small speakers. There is also minimal distortion at low and moderately high volumes. At maximum volume, the speakers behave as expected and cause grimaces. The bass isn't punchy in the chest but is audible and clear, well balanced in the mids and sounds a lot better than some of the 2.1 subwoofer systems I listed before I bought it. For reference, I have a JBL Flip portable bluetooth speaker and these Pebble speakers sound about the same as these. Softball-sized speakers. They don't take up much desk space and are definitely more aesthetically pleasing than most speakers at the same price point. The on/off/volume control on the speaker is actually pretty handy compared to using a mouse to adjust the volume via software. I have the volume set to 75% on my computer and use the volume slider on the speaker to adjust. There's no grille over the speakers, leaving them exposed, but this shouldn't be a problem for most people. I have speakers in a room that is 12ft by 10ft and they fill the room well with good sound. When I want audiophile sound, I put on headphones or head into the living room and turn on the dedicated stereo, but for cheap speakers to listen to Pandora while I work on my computer or watch YouTube videos, this fits the bill wanted me
