Decades ago, the Internet video community buzzed with cheap Phillips DVD boxes because they played "old can lids"! In other words, they played any video format recorded on a CD or DVD. These MYPIN boxes are the modern equivalent of those great old Phillips boxes. Unlike older WDTVs that selectively refused to play random MP4, MKV, and AVI videos so I had to re-encode them into a format I knew would play, MYPIN players play everything without problems. I have no idea why one reviewer claims MYPIN doesn't turn off completely when turned off, or why another reviewer claims the box damaged their hard drives in some way, or why another reviewer claims they can't disable subtitles. I didn't have any of these issues with my setup (see photo). The MYPIN boxes do everything I want or need in a media player BUT there are a few caveats I have to share with potential buyers. First, an HDMI cable is not included. So order one if you're going to connect it to a TV or monitor that's equipped with HDMI inputs. If you have an older TV or monitor, the MYPIN box has a mini-jack connected to a branched cable fitted with two RCA audio jacks and one RCA video jack. Another caveat: I bought my first box of MYPIN at the beginning of 2020. only got around to using it as a replacement for my WDTV boxes a few months ago though. Much to my disappointment, the box I bought in early 2020 didn't play my DIVX or AVI files at all, but the two boxes I bought recently played my DIVX and AVI files with no problems. The newer boxes showed a folder called APPS that wasn't in the old box. The APPS folder contained two different media player applications, VLC and Kodi. Kodi is the player app I chose because it has a larger font. I emailed the customer service address printed on the business card in the package. I received a response almost immediately with a link and instructions on how to update the software using the above folder and players. PAY ATTENTION to the instructions, you only need to extract the update.zip file onto a pen/stick. Obviously the player will only initiate an update if the "update.zip" file is the only file on the pin/flash drive. You also need the latest version of WINRAR to extract the downloaded update package. Older versions report the file as corrupt. Found this the hard way, downloaded twice and got a fresh RAR as a last resort.
