Works great for little money. I like the solid base and gooseneck. You get more volume without the foam windshield, which you don't need unless you're within inches of it. The sound quality is comparable to my Macbook Pro's built-in microphone, maybe a bit more open. I turn up the volume and settings on my laptop as much as possible and have no issues with static or noise. I like it. UPDATE: I had many more reasons to use this mic when I was recording PowerPoint lectures for my college students. This mic still sounds very good, especially at around 4 inches. It is sensitive to background noise. I notice it a lot more when it's in front of my iMac desktop and closer to the mic than it is on my laptop. also picks up faint electrical noise from the screen. Is a dog barking across the street from your home? If you hear it, then this mic will hear it too, albeit faintly. 9 o'clock seems to be the best balance of signal level and self-noise on this mic. I checked its pick-up pattern - it's omni-directional but it's hotter in the front than the sides and back - about 3-5dB difference from what I can tell. This was a good start for me looking for a general purpose desk mic. Now I'm looking for the next level of cheap mics in the $40-$60 range to get less noise and a cardioid pickup, so I don't get much noise from the mic. I still really like this one and I think it's great value for money.
