So it's been a few months since I got my drive and it seems to be working great. I connected it to my Directv Genie via an eSata cable for extra storage. The only complaint I have is that it makes an odd crunch when rewinding or fast-forwarding. At night when not in use you can hear it buzzing a little and the little blue light is a little bright. Sometimes I turn it off at night but when I turn it back on the next morning I have to restart the receiver for it to work he works again with the disc. I hope I never have to run out of a room again. I know you're probably wondering how do I fill a genie? Not only am I filling Genie, I have 2 other DVRs that remain full as well. Do not judge me. Ha ha. I rarely watch LIVE TV because I'm waiting for my beloved husband so we can watch our shows together. Just make sure you understand that if you've used a DVR, you won't have access to the original recording while using the disc. If you turn off the hard drive, your DVR will revert to the internal hard drive.
