I was looking for an external USB 3.0 CD/DVD player/recorder that was easy to install and easy to use. I don't need/want Blu Ray and don't want to be limited by USB 2.0 data rates. This CD fully met my needs. I haven't tried copying files to and from the device to test transfer speeds, but at this point I have no reason to doubt it. The system didn't even stutter upon detection and it sprung to life as soon as I plugged it in. None of my programs refused to use it. In short, I was looking for a simple, functional solution for my occasional needs. for an optical drive on my thin laptop without having to run a *project* to set it up. So I'm a lucky guy. The only thing I would like to point out is that the (non-detachable) USB Type A cable that is attached to the device is only about 8 inches long. So if you don't have space near your system USB port, you can add a USB 3.0 extension cable (B083DGV46V or equivalent) to your order. Also, when deciding where to connect this external drive, keep in mind that there is a Self-powered USB port required. External power drive.
