Works very well for your front door if you can get a little creative with the installation. I have an adopted Doberman Pinscher and like to leave my front door open often to let the air out. We live in the Northwest without many insects. It's big enough, my sporty dobe never tried it. It is very durable. If you plan to use it in front of an outside door, make sure you install it so you can insert the key and turn the handle. It's a bit of a trick. Also set the gate as low as possible so that it is flush with the sill so you don't push the entire gate down when you step on the bottom rung of the gate.
