I used a cheap cooler that I bought because it had removable USB ports but they never worked anyway. I still had trouble shutting down the laptop on high settings and I'm not a big gamer. I mainly play FaceBook games. But I always have 5-8 tabs open in Chrome, plus Outlook and IE email for FB game crashing in Chrome (Words with Friends). The shutdowns happened almost once a day and became very annoying, not to mention bad for the laptop. Bought this cooler because of the good reviews. When it arrived I immediately exchanged it for the old one. Less than 5 minutes later the laptop turned itself off. You can imagine my thoughts (and words!) right now! I restarted, held my breath and shut down again after 10 minutes. At that point most people would have thrown it back in the box and returned it. But then a thought occurred to me: I put a working laptop without a cool box on the back of the sofa during the changeover, and it took me a few minutes to set everything up and put it on the new cool box. I believe it has warmed up significantly in that time, enough to cause a shutdown. Anyway, it hasn't been closed since. I'm glad I didn't act rashly because I'm very, very happy with it. My laptop is wider than the cooler but that's not a problem and the small protrusions keep it in place without sticking out too much. I absolutely recommend this cooler. :0)
