TWC gave me this RCA DCM425 DOCSIS 2.0 modem when I first subscribed to their service 4 years ago and it has never let me down. Because it's small and unobtrusive, I thought it was a bit inferior to other more fashionable cable modems. When TWC announced that they would charge for modem rental, I decided to buy my own and use the big gun that TWC recommended most - the top of the range Motorola Surfboard (SBG6580). The Motorola was bigger, prettier, and advertised as a powerful DOCSIS 3.0 device that increased my speed and throughput. Unfortunately I had problems with it from day one - my speed was slower, websites would expire and I was losing 40% of packets. When I ran a speed test, the speed was okay (as advertised), but websites wouldn't open, YouTube lagged behind, and my overall bandwidth was low. TWC tried and tried but couldn't figure it out. Right down to their level 3 support. Eventually I found my old friend the RCA DCM425 here at Revain and decided to give it a try like they used to do. be. The RCA was easy to set up and after a quick 8 minute call to TWC for them to activate. BAMM! My internet is back to the way it was - fast, smooth and awesome! No lags, timeouts, headaches. Sometimes it's just better. DOCSIS 2.0 suits me and Surfboard is back. Maybe it was just a bad unit, but TWC didn't seem to believe that. Either way, I'm sticking with my trusty RCA.
