Not suitable for on set work

I work in film and Motorola's CP-200 is the industry standard. This production was too cheap and I was forced to buy a Retevis video surveillance system. Pros: I was shocked when I opened the box to find that the surveillance system is exactly the same as Motorola's standard surveillance system. Actually, I was pretty sure they were from the same manufacturer. The audio quality out of the earpiece is the same as any high quality CCTV I've had in the past. The tube you put in your ear was also comparable. All parts are modular with Motorola monitors so I will use them as spares. Can a broken spy with this bad frankenstein: $60 difference in spy and connection quality. I was wearing a jacket and when it came time for lunch I forgot to take off my radio before taking off my jacket. Normally this wouldn't be a problem with more expensive surveillance systems, but in this case the connection between the speaker and the outlet was broken, rendering the surveillance unusable. Thank goodness the production had some backup monitors or I wouldn't have had a walkie-talkie all day. (In movies, your walkie-talkie has to be silent, so keep an eye on it first.) In a job where my observations have to be 100% accurate, the Retevis 2 Pin PTT Mic Covert Acoustic Tube Earpiece let me down . That's not to say it's a bad observation, especially at this price point. I would recommend this to any walkie talkie beginner. However, for my film friends who are thinking about using this observation, I would recommend buying two. Or none at all.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Poorly thought out
