I have three dogs: a Labrador, a GSD and a French Bulldog. The lab is terribly allergic and suffers from chronic ear infections. GSD and Frenchie have only recently taken up paw licking, possibly due to seasonal allergies. GSD has also always been a sensitive puppy with frequent bowel movements. I fed him a food specially formulated for GSD and while it seemed to help him, I wasn't too keen on the brand or the ingredients. I had them all on different foods and was looking forward to putting them on the same diet and hoping it worked for all three. PROS: The food is delicious. Everyone likes it, that's a definite plus. The pieces are small, but that means the French can eat this food too. The transition was VERY easy. I was expecting diarrhea but I followed the transition instructions exactly and neither of them had any trouble transitioning for about 4 days. The food doesn't smell bad like some other brands I've tried. After 1 month on this diet, GSDs and Frenchies appear to have less paw irritation (no redness) but are still licking. I may have imagined it, but the Lab's ears also seem better - less irritated, and the yeasty smell seems to have decreased too. Minuses: Mash! In my GSD and my Frenchie, this food produces a lot, I mean a lot of poo. My GSD recently had an accident indoors - after I took her for a walk and stuffed two full bags of poop. 1 hour later while I was on a conference call he pooped life size again - indoors. Today I took him for a walk and stuffed THREE bags of POOKS! And it is guaranteed that he will have to come back later. Consistency varies from very formed and firm to slightly mushy. The French have the same problem, albeit on a "smaller" scale - bottom line, this food makes them poop A LOT. Before that I could expect two poops for GSD and Frenchie in the morning and evening. Now his open season is POOP. Because of this I'm not sure if this is the best food for our lifestyle - I have to do each of them 4 times a day instead of two which is a lot for three dogs. I'll keep her on this feed a little longer to see if her system adjusts but maybe I was being unrealistic thinking I could have 3 very different breeds on the same feed? UPDATE: After about 9 months with this feed I have to say this is the best I have ever tried. The poop problems are back to normal. You still love the food. And I mean run circles around me and swallow it EVERY DAY. The Labrador has the occasional ear problem and all three have itchy paws but things have improved a lot. I stay with this brand.
