Review on πŸ“ž Enhance Your Communication with the Grandstream GS-GXP2160 Enterprise IP Telephone VoIP Phone and Device in Elegant Black by Julie Lewis

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great phone for SOHO and small businesses!

As a VOIP guy I have used and installed hundreds of phones. The Grandstream GXP series is one of my favorites for its easy setup, overall good sound and build quality, and price for the features included. Let's start with a few "pros" of this phone. First, it has up to 6 rows, out of the box. And a huge number of breakpoints that can be customized (like speed dial, BLF, special features - like direct transfer, etc.) and the result is a huge amount of functionality. You can set up BLF (the LED will light up on it to let you know if your partner or colleague is on the phone so you can disturb them turning it on or off). You can add millions of shortcodes and usually you can do almost anything you want with it, you can just hire assistants. Audio is generally crisp and clear - on par with, or even better than, many phones twice the price. The huge color display has multiple page options (you can get stock reports, localized weather, you can put your own .jpg backgrounds, etc.) so it looks great on a desktop. Setup is fairly intuitive and I can usually get an out of the box connection in 60-90 seconds, assuming I know the credentials and have a computer handy (don't attempt to set up this phone without a computer on the same network). - You will spend eternity!). The web interface for configuration is quite simple and is similar to the entire GXP series. The phone also has two Gigabit Ethernet ports, so you can connect it to your computer and not experience a major performance hit! pretty cute. However, here's what I don't like about it. My biggest complaint is the headphone jack. I've tried TENS headsets, but I haven't found a single headset that works with this device. I'm not sure if this was intentional, but it looks like either the gain structure is wrong, or RJ9 was connected in a non-standard configuration. The GUI offers a toggle for Plantronics headsets, but that doesn't help either. In fact, the only way to get a headset to work is to plug it into the handset jack. Of course, this leads to other erratic results, but the headset works in this jack. If you need a headset (wired headset) I would skip this phone for this very reason. (I'll update this if I ever get better results on this).2. Phone book. Be honest, if you haven't played Office Space Extra you really shouldn't be using the phone book on a throwaway device like this. Your computer must be programmed to dial your number for you, or you must enter it as a speed dial. The phone book is absurd, especially since Grandstream wasted several keys on it.3. key assignment. There are three "hot buttons" - handset, headset and speakerphone. But they will NOT be posted together. kinda stupid. a little annoying but, shall we say, silly. 4 pin telephone cable. Another trivial but poorly designed idea. Of course, if nobody complains about it, Grandstream will never do better. but most of the time they run the cord out from under the phone so quite often it gets caught under the edge causing the phone to tip over. quite annoying, especially as something that could have been prevented. All in all, this isn't a bad phone. and for the price (<$100) it's a hell of a deal!
