The parts on this goal come apart easily enough, but not so easily that a child could slide and knock it out. We took 2 sections to keep the space around our TV kid free and 4 to go through our large living room. The gate can be opened hands-free and with support from the other side if needed (I can open it fairly easily with my feet/legs). We haven't had any problems with small hands getting stuck. My 14 month old cannot climb over them and they seem to be doing fine overall. We didn't install it, it stands alone and it works great. I can move them as needed to block stairs as needed. If you need multiple gates or a very long one I recommend buying one - you can always add or remove one. In the living room, even as narrow as ours, it doesn't hurt.
