So far it's holding up very well. My son is 3 almost 4 and 40 lbs. It's firm but plush. it reminds me of more or less rigid foam. This gives enough cushion to hold a "big baby" to get a little better at the table when eating and crafting. My oldest child who is 100 pounds loves to sit on it just for the pillow and it doesn't really come off much. He perseveres. So you pretty much get 3 inches of boost. We spilled sour cream and a few other things on it while we ate and I wiped it off quickly after dinner and it doesn't seem to discolor or discolor heavily, which I'm happy about, so I don't have to wash the lid very often until not at all.
