My GPSMAP 421S was not turned on this season. The multimeter indicated that 12 V is required at the plug. Garmin offered to try a new cable before replacing the device for $170. Some of the reviews here pointed out a similar problem with no power, which the cable solved. I bought this Garmin cable and the device is working again! It's likely that corrosion in the salt water caused the cable to break somewhere. I've always used a small shoe, but I'm sure the salt can still get on the contacts at different times. A friend who is a professional lineman gives a special lubricant(?) that he says will prevent future corrosion problems. I'll try to be more knowledgeable and blush if I think he might have gotten wet as well. Before purchasing I checked the listing to make sure my model is compatible with the cable. The price was good and free shipping with Prime!
