I've ordered a total of six of these mats for my three litter boxes and I can tell you YES they get straighter over time. If you're impatient, follow the included instructions and use a hair dryer to gently heat and soften the material so you can reshape it to your desired flatness. These mats are also resistant to liquid vomit which is a blessing as one of my cats has hairball issues. In terms of tracking, I'm happy to report that it's dropped drastically since I've been using these mats. However, it should be noted that until recently I was using much cheaper and dustier cat litter with larger, coarser granules that looked like miniature gravel. Me and one of my kittens are allergic to dust though, so I recently switched to a brand that claims to be 99% dust free (BIG investment, highly recommend) that has much finer grains, more like sand. Now that I've made the switch, I'm noticing that the big brand's cats are actually picking up more litter than before. However, if I shake the stuck dirt out of these mats before vacuuming, the vast majority of grain thrown out of the box STILL gets stuck in these mats. As such, I think they're doing exactly what I've come to expect from them: proportionally capturing the amount of trash that's being pursued outside the box. If you use these mats and are still unhappy with the number of marks, pay closer attention to the grit of your cat litter as that can be the problem.
