Review on πŸ“‘ Low-Profile Mirror-Mount Antenna for TRAM 7732 Satellite Radio by Shalom Germann

Shocked! No better than a normal magnetic antenna!

OK. I am shocked! This antenna generally does not perform better than the regular Sirius XM magnetic antenna! While the performance should probably be rated two stars, I'm giving it three stars instead. If you're reading this and I'm wondering why, the reason is that the atypical increase in antenna surface area, increasing the diameter of the copper tip, should dramatically increase overall signal strength. Regardless of whether a VHF/UHF antenna or satellite dish is used, except that a satellite dish requires a clearer "line of sight" to the satellite than VHF/UHF signals, which can bounce/orbit objects in atmospheric conditions. Location is Fairbanks, Alaska (with SXV300v1) so the satellite is already in line of sight at 8-12 degrees above the horizon with trees, mountains and buildings in line of sight. Neither antenna seemed to work better than the other, except perhaps for a very small slight increase with the standard magnetic antenna, but that's debatable as I don't know the dynamics of the antenna surface in the case or the reception spectrum of the antenna. (e.g. proper benchmarking or comparative testing.) All that being said, an atypical antenna like this, with more surface area and larger copper diameter, should certainly fare slightly better. Maybe 2019 when Sirius XM launches new satellites. , newer 2019 satellites offer higher bandwidth making this antenna more useful, and/or hopefully new 2019 satellites will provide Canada/Alaska (once again) with a usable digital signal!
