Faulty charging cable

I like the headphones, they fit well and offer good sound quality, but it's good that I had a spare charging cable because the one that came with my device didn't work, except for the defective charging cable I really like them. Now they came 88% charged, does that mean they were returned by someone else and I got a used product?, only the company knows.
