I have been using it since spring 2022. Before that, I used Canon 17-40 L from ultra-wide (soap on open corners) and Sigma 8-16 mm (on crop in the entire focal range and 16 mm on Canon 6D mark II), so I will compare with them. The opinion is subjective. 1. Sharpness. Sharper than 17-40, comparable in sharpness to 8-16, but the latter has a variable aperture and starts from 4.5, and when used on the FF at 16 mm, itβs generally 5.6. 2. Focusing speed. In terms of focusing speed, all lenses are the same, in any case, there were no problems with any lens when shooting sports. Noise is also parity. 3. Dust-moisture protection. 16-35 and 17-40 are perfectly protected from the weather, but the sigma sucked dust. 4. Strength. Because I mainly shoot sports (skate, vmx, mtb, snowboard) and like to stick the lens as close to the subject as possible. Sometimes they hit the lens with a wheel / board. Once the filter was broken with a board, and once the lens fell from a meter height onto the asphalt - I escaped with only a couple of scratches on the body and a broken filter. The sharpness is not lost, the motor continues to move the lenses quickly and silently, the stabilizer barely rustling stabilizes the picture. I bought this lens realizing that 2.8 is not needed for my tasks, because. in most cases, I shoot during the day, and if shooting indoors or staging, I use external light sources. I am completely satisfied with this lens and recommend it for purchase to both lovers of landscape photography and action photographers.
