I tested Ethernet ports, USB 3.0, phone charging, power delivery on the latest MacBook Pro (Intel). The tests were carried out over several weeks. The SD card reader and HDMI port have not been tested. Ethernet works as expected with gigabit connection speeds and a throughput of over 850 Mbit/s. The USB3.0 ports ran at speeds close to their rated speed of 5 Gb/s. USB3.0 devices connect at 3.0 speed every time (some USB hubs sometimes assign USB2.0 speeds to 3.0 devices). Pass-through power always delivers 15 watts to the hub. So, regardless of the wattage of your power supply, subtract 15 watts and the MacBook gets just that. The MacBook Pro performed great at lower power, even with moderate CPU/GPU utilization. The USB charging port on the hub put out about 4W when charging my phone. However, the hub only ever reported 2.5 watts. When you plug the phone directly into the MacBook Pro, the phone charges at 12W, and macOS also reported that 12W was allocated to the USB port. console log. This in turn occupied one CPU core completely, which in turn kept the fans running (while the rest of the system was idle). I found that unacceptable. Charging your phone directly from the MacBook Pro's USB ports and then unplugging it will never result in USB errors. Unlike some other USB hubs I've tried (which get very hot), this one only gets a little warm during use. Doesn't heat up even when using Power Delivery Pass-Through. Sent back for a refund.
