Description of StayGo USBC Travel: Twelve South's Ultimate Solution for Portable USB-C Connectivity

Designed, sold & supported by Twelve South, a family-owned small business in Charleston, South Carolina. STAY OR GO: StayGo includes a 1 meter cable to use at your workstation and a detachable travel cable that stores inside the StayGo when not in use. The matte black aluminum shell dissipates heat for better temperature control vs a plastic shell hub. DECLUTTER: The included 1 meter cable gives you the length to store the hub out of sight. Keep your workspace clear by avoiding cords or dongles handing off the side of your laptop. PLUG & PLAY: Does not require any software, drivers, or installation. MULTIPORT CONNECTION: 4K HDMI Port, (2) USB A 3.0 Ports, (1) Dual functionality USB A port w/ BC 1.2 for up to 7.5 Watts for faster charging, (1) Gigabit Ethernet Port, (1) SD Port / (1) Micro SD Port [cards read simultaneously], (1) USB C 3.1 Port 85W PD. StayGo replaces nearly all the connections missing from the new USB-C Only iMac! That includes Ethernet - you to consider the entry cost iMac - vs the higher priced iMac with the Ethernet power adapter. Add USB-A, SD card (for transferring photos) and Ethernet for a fast wired connection to iPad Pro. DESIGNED FOR TYPE-C DEVICES: iMac M1, iPad Pro M1, MacBook Pro/Air with USB C, iPad Pro with USB C, Microsoft Surface Go, Surface Pro, Surface Book, Huawei Matebook, Lenovo IdeaPad, ThinkPad, Razer Blade Stealth, Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro S, and more

So far so good. Everything works fine but I've seen others doubt SD and MMC and I've tried both and both don't recognize formatted media!?!? So far this works fine on my MacBook Pro 16 (2019). I will try HDMI and Ethernet soon. Two lengths of USB-C cable is just what I needed, especially when I put the laptop on a stand (other USB-C hubs hang in midair and pose a hazard). Updated: On a 2019 MacBook Air, this drains the battery!?!?!?! Only 30W are consumed. I tried this with power connected to…

Product description contains falsehoods and inconsistencies

Although it has been claimed many times that this device has a 'gigabit' ethernet port, my extensive testing has shown this to be false. These devices have a 100 Mbit/s Ethernet port. Unfortunately they included this to reduce costs as it is older technology. Even the Raspberry Pi manages to produce with a gigabit port. A sub-$100 computer might include a 1Gbps Ethernet port, but not this hub. Otherwise, the HUB does its job, except for the possibility of charging the device with it. However…

Cons
  • unreliable

When I received an email from Twelve South announcing the new StayGo USB-C hub, I was a bit skeptical as every tech company is touting their new device that will revolutionize the way content creators work . But I have to admit that Twelve South did everything right! From a well engineered product designed for use in the office or on the go, to the iconic 1m DETACHABLE cable and retractable travel cable, it has become my go-to hub for my MacBook Pro and Apple. Cinema Display and also use it…

NOT for iPad Pro 12.9 M1 2021 - Partial functionality

Short conclusions on what does NOT work on iPad Pro 12.9" M1 2021: - No video via HDMI connector, uses a high quality cable that works fine on other devices and works Tried several options with no success - Pass-through charging "tried" to work, but did not work reliably despite using a charging box with a higher power (65W) than the standard - Access to USB flash Drives was inconsistent, some working, others not being recognized - although they were all formatted the same I really wanted to…

Better than expected

I only have about 24 hours but I have no hesitation in saying that this little one has exceeded my expectations. I have a Surface Pro 7 and was looking for an affordable dock that has power pass-through, acts as a USB hub, and can connect USB-C to HDMI without costing me a few hundred bucks. That fits the bill. The form factor is even smaller than I expected, which is a plus since I'm currently working with limited desk space, but it still has everything you need and feels surprisingly solid…

Solid basic USB-C hub (but no USB-C ports)

Aside from much more expensive hubs that include Thunderbolt 4 and USB-C ports, this is a good device for what it is does based on my experience with the 2020 Macbook Pro M1. I haven't had any bandwidth issues. It gets warm but not too hot. USB-A Power works without any problems. Since I don't have an HDMI monitor, I couldn't test it. I was surprised to find that the ethernet port connected at 100Mbps no matter what I tried (including forcing 1000Mbps mode in my Macbook's ethernet adapter…

Almost everything worked, but MacBook Pro doesn't work

I tested Ethernet ports, USB 3.0, phone charging, power delivery on the latest MacBook Pro (Intel). The tests were carried out over several weeks. The SD card reader and HDMI port have not been tested. Ethernet works as expected with gigabit connection speeds and a throughput of over 850 Mbit/s. The USB3.0 ports ran at speeds close to their rated speed of 5 Gb/s. USB3.0 devices connect at 3.0 speed every time (some USB hubs sometimes assign USB2.0 speeds to 3.0 devices). Pass-through power…

Reliability issues with near-perfect travel and home office hub

When I saw Twelve South launching a new USB-C dock with a minimalistic dongle, I had to jump on it as soon as I got a big one Fan of them was accessories. The hub arrived quickly and, as you'd expect, setup is as easy as any other USB-C dongle. The hub feels solid thanks to the aluminum body, and what I really like (and underestimate) is the 3m angled USB-C cable that almost sits flush with your laptop or tablet. This is another underrated feature as the angled design reduces all cable clutter…
