I would say the sound quality is slightly better than the M3k with better resolution especially better clarity and treble although I feel the M3pro the lack of bass and the lack of an adjustable graphic equalizer do not help. "iPod” style music styles are offered as minimal effect EQ options. It's odd that such an audio-related compromise can be made in a device that appears to be targeting a certain subset of the market (no Bluetooth/streaming, full Hi-Res support, use of a headphone cable). someone who basically copies their music in lossless format (flac) and without tags. The best workaround I've found on both the M3k and the new M3pro is to move the "genre" category to an "unknown" subcategory that covers most of it. I miss the interface of the Fiio X1 and I need that again in a lossless device with similar performance for workouts.
