It held up well in heavy surf, coral reefs and even under and behind waterfalls. It really floats. About a third of the bright yellow loop is sticking out of the water with my Fujifilm Finepix camera so it's easy to see. So I don't hesitate to throw them and my camera some distance away from my swimming partners so they can take a picture of me. It was heavily used for a month in the Philippines, but I've only had it for two months, so I can't comment on long-term use. The weak link, which will likely become a point of failure at some point in the future, is the thin braided nylon cable that attaches it to the camera itself. It is the same diameter as the normal one that came with the camera. I wish it was a little larger in diameter as I've broken similar mounting cables on other point and shoot cameras over the years. The yellow foam strap is very comfortable and I use it both on land and at sea. This is how I wear it on long mountain hikes.
