Great start but takes time to learn the system.

I've put together some simple butterflies and this set seems to be just what I need to create more realistic butterflies! AND CAN! However, there were a few things that let me down: 1) The COLORS used in the instructions for some of the butterflies were FLIPped photos of the finished model (all paper in the set is colored on BOTH sides). Therefore, when you do it for the first time, it is easy to get confused. 2) For EACH model, the first few steps are made by a series of folds shown schematically only in the first half of the first book. This means that if you work on the BUTTERFLIES in Book 1, you'll be many pages back to the intro until you remember those steps (about a dozen butterflies or so) 3) There was only ONE typo, but it was one Mistake. Whopper is a duplication of an entire paragraph on page 37 in Book 2.4) Often the text or image of an intricate wrinkle was too small for my aging eyes to see well enough to understand. I had to use a magnifying glass. Maybe that's a criticism of me, not the book. Having said all that, once you "get it" and can remember the basic folds, you can stop turning all the pages. Then you can see where the artistic details come into play and you can see the author's genius and also get BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLIES! I do not recommend this set for origami beginners. But for motivated, mid or higher folders, it can get you hours if not days of hard work with great results. It just takes patience to follow Lafosse's technique. Also, I would suggest (or ask) the authors to publish a 2nd edition (to remove this typo and correct colors in photos or diagrams) and completely separate the introductory fold-out maps (all in Book 1) from the separate butterfly instructions (lay out See them ALL in Book II). Also, please make the books full size (8.5 x 11 inches) so all images are larger, especially the enlarged detailed folds. Now THIS would be a 5 star kit and recommended to everyone!

Bought this to use in Assisted Living but they are a bit too complicated.
