I used red sponges to clean hardwood floors with sprayed vinegar and water. I think it marred the urethane finish a bit. I used sheep's wool to polish the floor. It still wasn't shiny the way I wanted it so I went over it twice with a white pad and the shine came back. I think the answer is to use a white sponge to clean the floor and a dry white sponge to buff the floor to give it a nice shine. I would forget red pads or lambskin. This is a safe bet if your floor is covered in glossy urethane. The small round pad you get from the center of the white buffer pad is a great tool for getting around corners or removing severe scratches.
