Review on πŸ”Œ Sabrent USB to RS-232 DB9 Serial Adapter (Prolific PL2303) - Enhanced Connectivity with 9-Pin Compatibility (SBT-USC1K) by Nikith Brewster

Excellent physical hardware, perfect Linux compatibility

I bought this machine because of the picture I saw. If you look closely you will see that the end of the DB9 (serial port, RS-232) cable looks like a standard serial cable connector. It has male pins, male thumbscrews, and no protruding parts around the DB9 connector itself. I've used several other serial adapters and they all seem to have clunky or weird hardware protruding into the space around the connector. Such protruding hardware makes it difficult to connect the adapter directly to equipment having conventional internally threaded knurled locating bolts. In any case, with these poor designs, a female-to-male serial adapter cable was only required for connection to simple devices. This device does not have this problem. It fits perfectly and should be used as a design model for any serial to USB adapter (reading that, Keyspan?). I also liked the short cable. I already have half a mile of cord on my desk so it's nice to be able to get a short adapter. In terms of software and drivers, I use Linux on my computers and have had great experiences with it. Just plug in and get started. The drivers are already built into the kernel.
