Just the right size for my needs

I recently got a dog and have started walking him 5-10 miles a day. Sometimes we stop for lunch, which I enjoy reading while my four-legged friend enjoys a treat and a toy. I needed something to carry multiple things without being too bulky or uncomfortable. It was important to me to buy the right backpack. I became obsessed with it and put off buying it for a few months because exact sizing was critical. It had to be big enough to hold a 13" laptop/tablet, a book, glasses, dog treats and a few other accessories, but not much more. I was surprised to see how few backpacks fit into this narrow range. I found messenger bags and slings that were the right size but also required maximum comfort; Back balancing was mandatory, so they were excluded. When I searched for "small backpacks," I turned up bags that either didn't have padded laptop compartments, could hold much larger laptops, or were pink with "Hello Kitty" written on them. When I spotted the Kensington bag, it immediately caught my attention. It turned out to be the right size, with nicely padded shoulder straps, a reasonable number of well sized compartments and well padded. My biggest caveat was reports of bad zippers, but everything else sounded right so I ordered it. I couldn't be happier. The size is perfect. It fits an iPad 12.9 in the laptop compartment, a smaller iPad in the second padded compartment, a pad of paper and a few other items in the main compartment (I also carry a collapsible dog bowl and treats there). The smaller compartments are also spacious. The top compartment is designed for a phone, but there's room for more. The bottom compartment can store electronic accessories, pens, etc. I think two features that could be improved are the bottle holder and the zipper (but not for the reason others have mentioned). I doubt I will use a bottle cage. It's small and not very comfortable. This can be handy for very small bottles, but it's nothing special. I haven't had any problems with the zipper sticking as others have reported and I'm pretty casual with zippers. What I've noticed is that zipper pulls tend to get stuck in their rings. It's like the grip receiver is just too small for the grip. Not critical, but it takes a second to flatten before it opens. If you're looking for a backpack that will securely fit a small laptop and a few other essentials without being so big that you look like yourself. If you're heading to the top of Everest, this is a good choice. It is well made, well designed, comfortable and attractive for both men and women.
