So I just want to let you know that this might be a very long review of my Yamaha NS-SW050 subwoofer. I'm not a music lover but I can definitely tell you that I love this subwoofer. Anyway, I'll tell you the details about it. Performance: This little subwoofer is really good for its size. In my experience, I had to lower the subwoofer level of my receiver (Yamaha RX-461) several times when listening to music and watching movies. Even at night at low volume. It doesn't have a crossover frequency control on the back where the volume control is, but that doesn't bother me at all. I placed the volume control in the middle where it is recommended. It works great in my bedroom, it's quite small. May work better in a medium sized room. The frequency response is surprisingly good. I could hear low tones up to 30Hz from my room down the hall. Of course it won't shake the house (laughs), but it works a lot better than I thought. Now if you look at the photos I took you will probably see a different subwoofer. Yes that's right. This is a Yamaha YST-SW012 subwoofer. So, I have two Yamaha subwoofers. Unfortunately, Yamaha has stopped selling the YST-SW012 and NS-SP1800BL 5.1 speaker set, but you can find some online. Your questions will likely be: Do they sound different? Is the other louder than the other? New version more? Well, to be honest, I've changed both of them several times. And I didn't even notice the difference. They just sounded the same. And good: With these two I had even more bass than before. Both height and weight are exactly the same - almost 19 pounds (18.75 pounds). The only difference I see from the two subwoofers are the screens that cover the speaker and ports on the side. But wait, didn't they add Advanced Yamaha Active Servo Technology II to the new model? Yes indeed. YST-SW012 had it too. I also took photos of the manuals for both if you want to take a look. YST-SW012 refers to "Magnetically Shielded Type". And NS-SW050 belongs to non-magnetic shielding type. So in my opinion they are very similar. And I like how they both work. Now for the prices. Be really honest here. If you place an order to get the NS-SW050, it will cost $160. I was confused as to why the subwoofer was only $160 when I paid the same amount in 2018 for a Yamaha NS-SP1800BL 5.1 speaker set that included five surround speakers and a YST-SW012 subwoofer. But I just kept going and got it anyway. You get what you pay for (LOL). During the holiday season, the price can drop by around $20 to $30. I forgot how much it was when it was already holiday season lol but it will be dropping around that time. Conclusion: A really great sub. If you want something more, the NS-SW100 might be for you. It will probably be around $200. Also note: No subwoofer coaxial cable is supplied. You should get one from the store, or you probably already have one ready for you. At this point I have completed my research on subwoofers. And I'm very happy with these two, even if the new version costs $160. I'm guessing five surround speakers were free. Probably no. Now I'm thinking about buying a new Yamaha receiver. The one I have now is pretty old but still kicks. But anyway. Thank you for taking the time to read this review. I think I should write lots of reviews about the things I've ordered from Revain. But then again. I love it.
