This is normal. I haven't tried them as a replacement since I bought them as an extension. I'm sure they would be pretty much perfect as a replacement. As extensions, they are uncomfortable. It's a bit about tucking the tapered brim under the hat's fabric and hoping for the best. I needed extensions to fit my thick hair under the hat (it was meant to be a ponytail with a snap under the ponytail) and I was able to do it, but there aren't many variations. So it sits pretty loose. Overall there are very few sprues to speak of and the molds used to make them are fine. It's just okay in general. However, in the future I will consider another method of adjusting the size of my hats.
