Fell, compared to the old version

I've been using KeySmart Pro for several years now and it's great. When I saw this promising ringtone that was twice as loud and with twice the battery life, I jumped at it. I placed two devices next to each other with the same ringtone and heard no increase in volume. from KeySmart Max - if anything, it felt like my old Pro could actually be louder. My only real complaint about the Pro was that the battery life was shorter than I wanted and there was no way of knowing if it died. The Max is said to be able to solve both of those problems - presumably it starts chirping when the battery is very low, which I believe as I've heard it made some kind of noise when it first charged. If it proves consistent, that alone could justify the purchase price. There were a few times with the Pro where I accidentally completely drained my battery and then had to find my keys the old fashioned way (which wasn't very easy at times...). Having just received this device I can neither confirm nor deny if the battery will last the advertised 60 days. I like the new strip that makes the electrical connection between the two halves of the device. I was skeptical of how durable it would be, but it has proven to be quite durable and offers a lot of flexibility when attaching large car keys compared to the tiny metal mounting hole on the Pro. The built-in backlight is really reliable. significantly brighter on the Max compared to the Pro. I've always found the Pro's light to be a little anemic and dim, but the new one seems bright enough that it could actually be useful for the occasional flashlight need. (Maybe it's just me, but I could count on one hand the number of times it's taken a flashlight to find a keyhole in a car. It just seems to me that there's always enough ambient light to find the keyhole .) So, back then while I like the new light and I like that it supposedly gives an audible indication that the battery is low. However, I'm disappointed in the lack of increased bulk as advertised, and the general build quality isn't as solid as the old KeySmart Pro. I think it still looks pretty decent - I just hope it holds up as well as its predecessor. I really abused it and after a few years it still works fine. Only time will tell if I can say the same about Max in a few years.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • No Instructions
