I engrave a lot on glass - whole cases of bottles a week - and look through a lot of template material. I have tried various products to solve the delivery and pricing issues I constantly encounter when using Silhouette's Clear Screen material. I've tried the Cricut version (fatal error), contact paper, etc. I was skeptical about this version. But not only does it get the job done, it outperformed the Silhouette brand for me. Glass etching involves many steps, so I will compare step by step with the clear version of the silhouette (usually wrapped with transfer tape). makes outside of the role. It is also 12 inches wide versus 9 inches thick. It cuts perfectly in the machine and separates easily from the mat. I didn't think I would like blue, but it's a lot easier to weed through the stencil because I can see what's peeling and what's not. Unlike Sil, the small parts I don't want to sort out are pretty tight and stay in place. With this material, weeding was probably at least 100% faster. Because the stickiness is so good I have to use my scraper to scrape the transfer tape off the stencil or it won't stick to the transfer tape and will try to get stuck. to the underground. The backing is quite stiff and thick but can be easily removed once your transfer tape is properly attached. I had to be a bit more careful when removing the backing because part of the stencil wants to stay on it. So it was maybe 50% slower. Again I was worried about the blue stencil, I would have trouble seeing it enough to line it up on the bottle, but that was fine. My bottles aren't fairly flat cylinders - they're oddly shaped, with three-dimensional curves around the edges. I usually have to press down on the template as best I can and lightly melt it around the curves with a heat gun to set it into the right shape. I have no idea what this blue stencil is made of, but it "sticks" easily to the mold without heating it! I just had to put some pressure on the curves with my finger and it went in and stayed in place. It is slightly softer than the Sil version. game changer! Not only saves time, but also significantly reduces the risk of acid leakage behind the stencil. 50% faster. The etchant application went well and I worried a lot less about the stencil moving under the scraper when I scraped off the excess etchant before rinsing. It stuck to the bottle during rinsing and came off easily when the residue was removed. In fact, the blue color helped ensure I wasn't leaving any bits behind. An added bonus is that I didn't get any sharp bits under my nail when pulling it off. If you do this often, you know what I mean. Not only is this a good replacement for the very hard to find Silhouette version, but I can say that I prefer this version a lot. I etched 12 bottles last night and it worked fine the entire time. It's also significantly more economical. My new best friend!
