I bought this for my mother who has dementia. I programmed POWER and did CHANNEL UP/DOWN and VOLUME UP/DOWN the same way as just Volume Up/Down. It does not need a channel function. I have not programmed the MUTE button. Even that confused my mother. I want them to make one with only 3 buttons. (not funny) I also tried taking the battery out for about 10 seconds and it didn't forget its program so that's good. The biggest problem I had was that the output beam is too narrow, so it only works if I point it directly at the remote sensor on the TV. In a way it's good if you're very far away as a focused beam is effective at a longer range, but my mom doesn't use it that way. And the damn TV has a remote control sensor on the left, not in the middle. I hope she remembers pointing to the left side, but I honestly don't really think so. Maybe I can try replacing the IR LED emitter with a wider beam angle, or maybe I need to look for an IR repeater. Sigh.
