Please read the 5 star ratings for this product from Robert Hoeth & SeaKnight1000 and others. Your processes and reviews are "more detailed" than mine. My process: 1) Put an old but "good" (i.e. over 10V) old car battery on the passenger side and plug in the VSTM. 2) VSTM connected to OBDII connector 3) replaced low car battery, 4) VSTM disconnected. Summary: Easy to use, looks good, saves auto memory, so no retraining process is required. $17.99 was a reasonable price for this simple and (apparently) well-made product. Because this product has worked so well for me, I would love to be there when the people who gave the 1 star ratings used it to determine if it really is a product defect. NicknameDrSciWayne
