This strap is perfect for locking the basement door. I had to lock the door to protect my two year old son. Excellent length leaving almost no extra strap. The quick release makes it easy to put on and take off. It's not the usual way of using this, but I needed something to keep the door closed until my son asked enough to use the stairs safely. This is the best alternative to using a gate. Worried my son would just open the compression gate and didn't want to drill any holes. Great solution to a problem I was having and I can use the compression straps for something else if I get tired of one of the door latch straps.
